In a move which will no doubt change the current UK-based gaming landscape even further, news that wagering software firm Metric Gaming LLC has been awarded a remote gambling license from the UK Gambling Commission has caused a fair share of excited throughout the industry in recent days.
Following the amendments made to the Gambling Act in the United Kingdom late last year, Metric Gaming was required to apply for a license in order to continue its trade throughout the country, not to mention several other territories world-over. The new legislation detailed that all of those UK-based operators offering online services to British residents must now possess a license approved via the UK Gambling Commission – severing the commonly used shortcut of seeking licensing from an offshore gambling body.
This vital step has now been successfully completed by the organisation, making it but the latest in a long line of British success stories in the online gambling industry. Douglas Mishkin, the groups senior vice president of legal affairs stated: “attaining the license was a vital step to demonstrate to the market our commitment to regularity compliance. Furthermore it is a testament to the integrity of our business and products.”
Stock price of the company is now set to sky-rocket following the accreditation, with a busy year ahead for the company now looking even brighter as a result of the license. Metric CEO, Peter Bertilsson, has made comment alluding to how precious a market the UK is for his company, given that it is home to so many frequent sports bettors: “by obtaining the appropriate license, Metric can now continue to provide the UK market with cutting-edge innovation.”
Despite this success, a long road lies ahead for the group, as does for any trying to get ahead in what is fast becoming one of the world’s most highly competitive market places.
